Can anyone explain the proper way to secure the bungee cord into the two hooks?

There was a metal half ring in my parts box that was used to crimp the bungee cord.

yes, but how is it applied? as a stop, around one end, around a loop, etc?

Is there a picture somewhere to see what i'm supposed to do?
