I have a friend who wants to get back into flying, but has a possible
medical issue that might keep him from passing a Class III.  Is there an AME
on the list that is willing to chat with me off list about his condition and
if it is worth him trying for the medical?  He wants to get back into
airplanes that he can travel in to far destinations with his family, so LSA
isn't really his first choice.

I find that the AOPA medical service is quite good. I have a heart
abnormality (I know you guys don't think I have one, but the problem
turned out to be something else) that is a non-issue but that the
doctor finally had to take notice of. I contacted AOPA to ask what I
should do and followed their advice. I ended up doing a preemptive
strike on the FAA medical folks before they could do one on me. AOPA
told me which tests to have done and how the results should be slanted
by the cardiologist before going for my physical. As a result, the AME
did not feel a need to deny and OK City didn't feel a need to come
back and ask for more information.

I recommend the AOPA medical services highly.
