HI Michel,
I’m using UHMWE at 3/8-inch thickness that replaced Nylon that absorbed water.
Not so expensive and easy to work.

Hello group,

As part orf my 601 renovation project, I want to replace the lower nose wheel fork bearing with the newer style 601 XL plastic bloc. I would like to know what material is mandated (delrin, nylon, acetal, UHMWE?) and what is the thickness.

Thanks!

Michel

Hi guys,

I’ve had a few people ask about a drawing for the inspection panels I use on my 601HDS.

The link below will get you to the drawing on my site and clicking the drawing at the bottom

of the page will get you to a larger image that’s printable. The panels serve my plane well

and have never given any difficulty. If you want to make a set of these, the drawing is

a good guide.

I use 1/4 inch UHMWE flush with the original 1/8" aluminum... i noticed that my gear leg got a bit of wear (0.003") from movement over the 6 years that the plane flew (probably constant rudder movement). I would like to do away of the aluminum contact on the nose wheel... did you make it so that contact is only on the plastic part?

Thanks!

Yes Michel,
I noticed wear in the same fore and aft areas and made adjustments to keep the tube
From being in contact with the aluminum. With the UHMWE, that works rather well.
Get a good fit with the bearing plastic and then remove a little aluminum for clearance.
It’ll hold.

I noticed different varieties of Nyloil... there is the green one and then, the MDX (gray or blue). Are they interchangeable? It appears that the kit part is the grey Nyloil (that is filled with Moly...).

Michael

I have seen both.  These materials are designed to be used as shaft bearings  spinning at some speed.  The friction generated by the nose strut is by comparison of a much lower order.  Don’t forget to grease the strut prior to installation both bearings
