I've fixed two of the later AG5Bs with stiff controls.
Apparently, some genius in Martinsburg decided on changing the grease used in the controls. This grease congeals and the controls become so stiff the plane becomes unsafe to fly.
I'm sure it was just another improvement like the electrical system.

Hi Gary,You have probably seen this post, copied below, on the Gang. I recall that in 2005 when flying my Tiger during the pre-buy, Fred Kokaska experienced so much stiffness in the yoke that he thought the autopilot servo was not disconnecting. A local autopilot shop thought the same (!) until Fred and Warren Eding discovered that the chain and possibly other related parts, had never been lubricated by the factory and were corroded. Fred lubricated the chain and the controls moved freely. Since then, you and I have addressed this issue and, I believe, lubricated part or all of the assembly. I will appreciate your recommendation after reading SB-194.
Thank-you,
Bert

Subject: New Service Bulletin 194
Hi gang,

This is not an official communication - just a "heads up" for the gang.

In the interest of safety and in response to a service difficulty report, the
FAA requested that True Flight investigate and issue a service bulletin
covering an issue for the Martinsburg, WV manufactured AG5B Tigers. It only
applies to the Martinsburg built aircraft. Post cards have been sent out to
the registered addresses of owners with aircraft affected by this bulletin.
The post card directs them to our new service document web site at:

https://sites.google.com/a/trueflightaerospace.com/service-documents/
or: http://tinyurl.com/trueflightdocs
The notice is SB-194 and can be viewed, downloaded or printed from this site.
FYI:
The new site will be a work in process and the earlier SB's will be added as
time allows.
We are transitioning to electronic notification for fleet issues. If you own
a Grumman single engine aircraft you need to be on our notification list. To
join the list please send an email with Notification in the subject and in the
email include your name, email address, model designation, N number and serial
number to customerservice(at)TrueFlightAerospace.com (customerservice(at)TrueFlightAerospace.com).

Further, if you operate a facility that services our beloved aircraft it is in
your customer's best interest to be on the notification list. You will be
among the first to receive any new notices. We will not share your address
with anyone else.

Thank you,

Kevin

Kevin Lancaster, President
True Flight Aerospace
