|
|
Hello all. I have nearly finished the upgrade to my 601 XL. One holdup is the aileron stop mounted in the fuselage. The stop is clecoed in place now and rides the top of the aileron cable turnbuckles. I could make a new part, but it will still be in the way every time the turnbuckles have to be readjusted and safety wired. Has anyone found a better way to add this aileron stop where you can still access the turnbuckles?
Thanks
Chuck Maggart, 601XL w/ Jabiru

I made the stops adjustable because I didn't think I could fine tune them by filing away material. I guess I could remove the movable parts to get better access to the turnbuckles but I hadn't thought of doing that. But I haven't safety wired them yet either. I don't know how to accomplish the task because I can't reach them from the hole in the floor or by kneeling down in the cabin. I can get them screwed together but safety wiring is a long shot. I would guess that if you can get them adjusted properly and then somehow get the bolt out of the torque tube you could wire them and reinstall them but you have to deal with 30 lbs of tension. The balance turnbuckle could be used for the tension adjustment after wiring the other two but that one is the hardest to get to in my opinion. Just my thoughts.
It will be interesting to hear from others on this topic.

Hi Chuck,
All you need to do is learn how to safety wire a turnbuckle one handed
without seeing what you are doing.
No sweat.
