Another place to check, in the power distribution box behind the pilots seat is a selenium rectifier. they do tend to fail with age. Have one of your electronics friends replace it with a modern silicon bridge rectifier. I don't have the schematic here but it is involved in the compass.

Looking at the schematics, the selenium rectifier is associated with the VHF transceiver, not the gyro compass. I don't think that would help his problem.


Of all the systems in the CJ6A, the slaved gyro compass is far-and-away the most complex. Once it dies it really is time to go in a different direction. You can get rid of an amazing amount of weight by punting the gyro compass and replacing it with something solid-state.
