Hello everyone,

I am from Austria and plan to buy me a Grumman.

Now arises only you question whether a "Tiger" or "Cheetha" ???

The home airfield would a grass runway, with 1600ft length have (this is grass runway fastened with plastic sheets)

I would be the takeoff and climb performance interest.

The aircraft would be operated max loaded with 2 people. And with fuel for max 3-4 hours.

Can you give me to provide information which take-off distance required approximately and with how many ft / min, the aircraft then rises.

with best regards
and a Happy New Year

I fly a Tiger that could fly out of a 1600 ft field at 2400 pounds but that is very short for most airplanes.  The Cheetah would probably need the 160 hp STC minimum.  You can download a Pilot Operating Handbook for free if you search.  Look on American Yankee Association website.

I routinely fly my Tiger out of a 2600 ft grass field with no problems but don't know how comfortable I would be on 1600 ft. Landing on such a short field with even just a moderate crosswind would probably send my pucker factor up a few notches.

This attachment shows "BOOK" numbers to be taken with a optimistic outlook, AOPA recommends adding 50% for takeoff ..1600 , Seems like that would be very tight , if you are operating High Density Altitudes

Grumman Guru Ken Blackman has a lot of experience operating Grummans in and out of short runways. You can contact him here:  guru(at)airmodsnw.com (guru(at)airmodsnw.com) Be sure to include the altitude of the operating area in your discussion as it can make a huge difference.

My personal minimum field length is 1800 ft in Tiger (with no appreciable obstacles at either end).

I’m sure either one would work well. Personally, I don’t fly out of grass strips because of the wheel pants. But, then, I baby my plane and anything rough is a no-no for me.
