I see that the Onex from the Sonex folk-- the Monnetts-- uses an
Aerovee engine, a modifed VW. Its weight is listed, less exhaust and
oil at 165 lbs. It looks like the lightest Corvair, the larger engine
with metric cylinders, weighs 50 lbs. more. The Corvair would offer a
great deal more horsepower and performance. I am familiar with the
Sonex/Cleanex issue and the lack of support of Corvairs by the Sonex
designers. I recall that moving the battery to more rearward location
seemed to reconcile all CG issues in the Cleanex.

Does anyone know enough of the Onex to predict that there are suitable
means to achieve proper W&B with a Corvair engine in it? This little
guy could be a screamer with a Corvair.

Past this hurdle, the next issue would be how to stay within light
sport performance limits. Ideas there? BTW, I have seen no top speeds
or cruising speed data per se on the Onex, only VNE, etc.
Thanks,
Tim in central TX
