Hi All,
Happy New Year!
We have a dilemma, just got off the phone with Aircraft Spruce and they want $80 for one radiator cap!!
Anyone know of another source to purchase one not costing that much?

Rotax went to a higher pressure radiator cap for 912s a few years ago to
allow a little hotter coolant temp before boil over.
Thought it was less than $80 from Lockwood, in sebring Florida.

After a little research, found that the 912 uses a pressure of 1.2 bar for the radiator cap. 1.2 bars is equivalent to 17.4 pound per square inches.
18 psi caps by Stant are available from amazon.com:

I’d try one of these rater than shelling out $80. May be that your local auto parts store can get one for you without the shipping charge.

I find this interesting. Kitfoxes generally - at least the earlier ones
with 912 and the external radiator run a bit on the cool side. Is there
another advantage for the high priced high temp thermostat? As mentioned, I
would go to the nearest auto parts store, but good luck there. If It isn't
in their computer matched with make model and year they might just shoo you
away as my two local stores did a while ago.

Hi John, The problem that I think I will have is that the coolant tank radiator cap is about 1/2 the size of a standard cap. I know of a great radiator shop over in Reno and I will take this gold plated beauty made exclusively for Rotax and there probably is some smaller German car that may have a cap this size, I am not totally toast yet, but I am losing small amounts of coolant and it could be that all the air is not out of the system yet, as I changed to dextron which has seemed to help but it is 16 to 24 * F up here so it is hard to tell at this point, I thought I would toss a new cap on just for grins but the old one certainly looks good at the moment. Thanks for everybody's help once again. This is the older 912. Bob

I replaced all hoses and installed an in-line water temp sending unit per
Rotax/Lockwood suggestions, and about 30 hours later had to retighten
clamps because of very slight coolant loss. I never saw signs of coolant
on any pipe, hose, clamp, but retightening the clamps did the trick.
As an aside, the in-line water temp is a bit HIGHER than the CHT mounted
reading, even when gauges and sending units are switched, so an error in
sending units, cables and gauges is not the cause. I use UMA gauges and
matched sending units.

John, this note reminds me that in the day the gasket would occasionally leak and someone came up with an automotive replacement. It was from a Mercedes, I believe. I can't find my reference. Maybe someone else has the info.

OK. Time warp. Checked the Acura and it has a nice, teeny, very weird, radiator cap. Nothing like the 912. However I did find this interesting thread:

Hey my Acura has a teeny tiny radiator cap. I'll check it tomorrow.
