I am helping a friend building a 601 with a jabaru engine. I need pictures or diagrams of the throttle routing for two throttles. I have the rod for the
connecting the two throttles , but am not shure how to route to the carbaruter. the throttle is set to open if the cable breaks. thanks

Hi Paul,

I tried the approach that came with the dual throttle option from Jabiru USA with the FWF kit. It didn't work very well. They put the torque tube above the shelf on the front of the firewall where it forces sharp bends in the control cable going to the carburetor. It is not very smooth in operation. I guess they felt they had to put it forward of the firewall since they were selling a FWF kit.

I took their idea and moved the torque tube into the cabin between the firewall and instrument panel. I made a new torque tube with longer arms to match the height above the carburetor so the control cable runs have almost no bend at all. I also mounted the throttle controls on the cabin side where I can reach them. I have short arms. It works very nicely.

I'm not sure I have enough pictures to make this all clear but if there is a particular part of it you would like to see then let me know.

Hi Paul,
I was reluctant to use the Bing throttle arm return springs and removed them. The cable was replaced with a 1/16-inch piano wire and provides the push pull of a normal Cessna or Piper throttle. I’ve not had any difficulties with this arrangement at all. I also did a common flex connection between the carbs that works well too, but some prefer to use dual connecting wires for the Bing arrangement too.

I used the Jabiru kit setup with a couple minor modifications. I cut a vertical slot in both sides of the firewall where the cable goes through. The origonal design with just a hole tried to flex the firewall as the wire traveled up and down. The slot is lined with a piece of N66 which gives very smooth operation. Protection is provided by a bellows sourced from McMaster-Carr for a sealed opening. I made my own bracket per the Zenith drawing to positively capture the ends of the rod. I used the nylon blocks from Jabiru to hold the center and provide the necessary friction. The throttle works very well for me and has that "certified" feel!
