A while back there was a post about a home made nose skid.
My search skills are about like my airline pilot skills.
It had pictures and etc.
Can any one direct me to the link

Thanks David d.

Do a search for "nose skid". I posted some pictures of my design some time ago. Some people liked it; others raised a fuss.

I got an email from TNK at the time & they were complimentary and had no problems with it.

I use it as a front pull handle, tie down point if required, and I also attached my pitot and static tubes to it.

Rex,
I did do multiple searchs for nose skids, loops, plates, etc. As stated it did not return any such plans or picutures.

Could some one kindly just send a link. TIA

David,

Do a search for "rodebush". All my posts should come up. Click on "nose bracket" and the pictures should come up.

If that doesn't work let me know & I'll send you the pictures direct via email.

I found it by searching for just "skid". Otherwise, every post with "nose" in it will come up.

Okay, after much searching, I found the link to the hoop thingy.

http://wingsforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=174

I dont know where the wings forum is, but all info is there except, what is the metal used? From the pictures it could be Al. Steel or Stainless?

I have PM ed to Planecrazzzy, but so far no reply.

Has any one else built and use one of these?

Thanks,
David d.

David,

That's a nice skid but not mine. If you are on the BBS Matronics forum just hit the search at the top. I have about 4 or 5 pictures.

I made mine from standard aircraft 4130 steel tubing.

Thanks Rex, but yours was installed as your plane was built. I have a Mk III that I recently purchased and want the add on type. And it can be removed easily later. With out knowing I will build it with steel or stainless.

Hi David,
Dont know how you are going to fix your nose bow. To be of real use there
has to be some lateral bracing which will make it heavy.

I had a pitot in that position and wiped it off twice in early taxying
sessions going for a burst of power to make a 180 turn before I had learned
to hold the stick back.

After that holding the stick back becomes second nature .

David,

Yes, you're in for a little more work. You will have to pull the nose cone at minimum. I welded some support tubes for the skid from the horizontal section in front of the cage. I think TNK eliminated that section on later models for weight reduction as it really doesn't do much from a stress/load point of view.

The benefit may not be worth the amount of work. It's up to you.

But you never know. Last month I tied the tail down and was running up the engine again for some instrument checks (elevators not installed yet). I left the tie down too slack and dumped the cage on the nose at full power. I was glad for the skid as it probably saved me a dinged nose cone.
