Those not on Facebook don't know about the trip Clytie and I are on. It started out as a simple flight to help a new Tiger owner get his Tiger from Auburn to New Jersey.
He needed the help because he'd never flown over mountains, let along the Rockies. I convinced him he needed to see some real mountains as long as we're on the way. Grand Tetons, here we come. I'll post a pic or two when we get back.
Somewhere in Easter South Dakota we began looking for fuel. So, you know how airports have 3 letter identifiers? Well, the 3-letter for Rapid City is KRAP.
I called them on the radio and said, "KRAP tower, do you guys have gas?" The tower came back with a chuckle, "Yes. We have gas."
I didn't have the heart to land there for gas. I couldn't stop laughing.

Not a bad stop there actually. Nice folks and neat location just east of
the Black Hills and Rushmore. But yes, KRAP is and always will warrant a
chuckle:)

A much better place to stop is Custer. Only 2 miles to town, rental
car if you need it, camping on nice grass, close to Mt. Rushmore and
Crazy Horse and a nice operator who had a free barbque the last time I
went through there on the way to OSH. Better fuel prices too. Stopped
there about 20 years ago and have been going there ever since.
