Moe,
Try General Aviation Maintenance, Essendon Aerodrome, Melbourne, AU, they are parting out a 680 FLP with IO-720s.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton

Mike,

All I really need is the roller bearing for the Vickers hydraulic motor(#MF033B007B) that drives the cabin supercharger.  There are a lot of other items that I would like to have if they were available at a good price. McGill made the bearing (# VS-211490) but does not have it avail.  SKF made a bearing (#NU1910E) that was very similar, however, no one has one in stock that I can find.

I have received two quotes for a rebuilt motor (1) $ 14,500.00 exchange + $ 9,500 core charge and they will back bill me for any unusable parts in my unit.  (2) $ 19,880.00 EXCHANGE + $ 9,500.00 core charge.  Both prices of course do not include freight and taxes.  Both quotes had extended lead times.

It is my understanding that the MR. RPM conversions used turbocharger bleed air instead of a cabin supercharger, which would unfortunately rule out Mason's old plane (N70QT) and the plane that Bill references in Australia.  Photos of N55GL (derelict in Berry Hill, GA) show it to not have an air scoop on the top which leads me to believe that it is a 680F and not a 680F(p).  I will try to confirm this tomorrow.

Without the cabin supercharger not only can the cabin not be pressurized, the heater will not work, as this supercharger supplies the air for the heater both on the ground and in the air.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help.  Obviously, any additional suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Moe

Hi Moe,

N55GL is definitely a 680F(P).
I have quite a few shots of it at Berry Hill, including one of the dorsal scoop itself, which is also visible in a few of the shots.

Best Regards,
Barry

Hi Bill,

I think that Morris went down and helped Harry's son "sort out the stuff". I was going to buy a couple of wheels and some other spares from them. If Morris or someone has Harry's sons contact info., could they please advise. I may be down there before too long.

When this problem begain to develop, Morris was my first call, however, he doesn't have anything.

Thanx much!

Bill,
It would probably be worth contacting General Aviation Maintenance Pty Ltd, Ph: + 61 3 9379 1019. Fax: +61 3 9374 2620 ..., to see what they have. Being a long way from anywhere, spares holding down here tend to be larger than the average MRO in US or Canada. You never know your luck. They might even have a line on alternative bearings that you are looking for.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton

Moe, could you not get a similar bearing from other manufacturer and just have a DER or a DAR sign it off as field mod? Seems like an awful lot of money to replace a whole unit just because the bearing can't be found...

Is there no STC to convert the supercharger to something a bit cheaper? Something similar to the Peter Schiff CCU units for the 690?

Adam,

None of the bearings that are available have the correct I.D. to O.D.  It is impossible to machine the shaft to reduce the bearing I.D. requirement and the housing is not thick enough to machine the housing by 2mm (approx. .080) to accomidate any bearing that is available.  Also, Vickers used a bearing which is narrower than usual.

Regards,

Moe

Hi Moe,

N55GL is definitely a 680F(P).
I have quite a few shots of it at Berry Hill, including one of the dorsal scoop itself, which is also visible in a few of the shots.

Best Regards,
Barry

Regards,

Moe

Moe,
Try General Aviation Maintenance, Essendon Aerodrome, Melbourne, AU, they are parting out a 680 FLP with IO-720s.
Cheers,
Bill Hamilton
