I found a leak in my fuel line that runs from the spider down to the fuel servo. The leak occurred where the hose goes through the baffle from the spider so I removed the armor from the hose over the leak and found that the rubber center was very stiff and not very flexible. The hose has been affected by the heat in that area but I don’t know where to get a replacement hose or what to specify as to hose type. Is this a time limited part-mine has been in service in sunny Arizona for 3-1/2 years- or was the hose quality not good enough in the first place. The original did not have fire-sleeve on it: would fire-sleeve have help protect it from the heat?

I'm going to replace the hose Tim but don't know of a source. I got mine
from an off-road supply house and it was not fire-sleeved. Do you remember
where your came from? Albert

Recommend integral firesleeve hose. Parker 124J or equivalent. Precision
Hose Technology i Tulsa is one good hose shop. It is a standard hose for
all IO540s, so they should know the dimensions.

I use Herber Aircraft in El Segundo. www.herberaircraft.com  You definitely want fire sleeve on that one.  You should be able to just call them and order by length and type of end fitting.

For this particular line I prefer the teflon integral firesleeve hose,
because it is smaller outside diameter, naturally abrasion resistant,
and is good for the life of the engine. Some have opted to use it for
all oil and fuel hose forward of firewall......Will Curtis I think,
perhaps some others. It is about 15-20% more expensive, but prevents any
fire from burning through the line(for awhile at least).

That's why I wondered too....I couldn't remember if mine came
with the engine or from Van's, but it had fire sleeve, so I
was curious as to how yours didn't. I have some photos though
and it looks like it came with the engine from Aerosport, so
that's how I got it.

Has anyone replaced the fuel line in the tunnel from fuel
pump to firewall with teflon yet? I'm about to start
tearing open that area again and I think if teflon will
do the curves right I would like to do flex there too.
I still have the poor quality aluminum tube there now.
I bought some of the better stuff too, so in a pinch
I could remake it.

Hey Tim,

Yes, on the stainless braided/teflon inner from the fuel pump to the
firewall. I'm pretty sure others here had done it, then when Wes had his
inspected, the guy recommended that the original hard line be replaced (as
well as the brake lines from the fuse all the way down to the wheel
cylinders) -- so we did. It wasn't that difficult to do and no problems in
the last two years. We just measured and had them made up at a local
hydraulic shop.

Later, - Lew

Yes, I just replaced about 95% of the tubing in the tunnel. I even replaced
the tubing going to the tanks. Another RV-10 builder, Dana Saucier, also
did the same. Both of us worked with Tom Swearengen at tsflightlines.com.
Photos are on mykitlog.com. Tom is getting ready to take the plunge and
start building a RV-7.

www.tsflightlines.com
tsflightlines(at)gmail.com

It took several iterations to get things correct, due to my inability to
accurately measure and not completely thinking through a couple issues.
With that said, several things were learned. There is no such thing as a
standard RV-10 installation. Since Van's has change the location of several
items in the tunnel (i.e. fuel valve), type of fule valve (Van's or Andair)
and did the builder construct per plans (i.e. the fuel valve mount in the
correct orientation).

The lines going to the tanks and brakes if you remove the fittings will have
a turn radius issue if you attempt to make a tight right angle turn. They
do fit quite nicely to turn and run along the opposite tunnel wall, so you
may need to think about routing before you order. There were several
connections that a 90 degree on the end of the hose solved some of the
radius turn issue.

Tom even fabricated some of the really short pieces with stainless.

Some of my brake lines are Bonaco. There is no comparison is working with
Brent at Bonaco or Tom at TS Flightlines. My experience was that Brent
didn't respond to email and was hard to reach even if you called. It seemed
that I always called when he was busy working in the shop. Tom has always
responded to emails, regardless of when they were sent. I've had him call
me a couple times late in the evening or one the weekend to follow up on
email. Tom just provides outstanding support.

If you are going to replace your lines, then I would give him a call. A 5
minute call to understand what he needs for measurements and what he's
learned from fitting other RV-10s will save you frustration down the road.

I am a little late to this thread; I assume you are referring to the good hard lines made from 6061T6? We used Teflon line from fuselage to brakes and 6061T6 lines and bulkhead fittings for brake and internal fuselage hard lines. No leaks 540TT.
