Having owned both, and discussing this with 3 other owners at our field, I am happier with my current solid lifter engine. My previous engine always ran very hot oil temps (from new to 150 hours) despite many attempts to rectify. Oil was always very dark, even 1 flight after oil change. All solid lifter engines on the field ran cooler. To do with hydraulic lifters? Not sure.... But that's what we all blame.

Any loss of weight in this area will help with engine efficiency and life expectancy. Also, a hydraulic lifter exerts a constant pressure to the total circumference of each lobe base circle resulting in a certain amount of drag. A solid lifter does not contact the camshaft base circle, so internal friction is reduced.

I am looking to convert my early hydraulic 2200A #2456 to solid lifter from GM, (.842" dia.) I need adjustable rockers. Anyone have any for sale before I buy brand new units??...DonB
