It's hard to argue with the manufacturer. I had my IO-550B o/h'd not long ago and stopped by the shop when my mechanic was prepping the case halves for assembly. He had the two halves coated with different sealants, one was Permatex (I think) and the other some purple high tech type. Plus there was a silk thread. When I asked he explained that it was specifically called out that way by Continental in the manual. It's too weird for Cont. not to have had a reason. He's a stickler for following the book. RTFM, YMMV, etc...
