Hi guys I have the latest Europa XS trigear (kit 625), which asks me to change the seals in the brake cylinders to 'nitrile' (included in the kit), - what does this mean in terms of brake fluid? I have matco brake calipers. Any suggestions for the best brake fluid for this combination would be very helpful. Thanx in advance. Paul Munford

You should check with Matco. Are you sure the O-rings in the kit are
not for something else, say a Jamar master cylinder?

It was my recollection that Matco already uses Buna-N (which is nitrile!).
Check the on-line manual for the WE-51 and you will see the parts list
specs Buna-N o-rings.

Buna-N is not compatible with glycol based brake fluids like DOT 3, 4, or 5.1

Dot 5 is silicone based and is compatible

Paul
You do not say which brakes you are using. If you are installing the Trigear foot brake pedals then you need to change the seals as directed. I assume Europa did include the replacement seals in the kit. See attached note on brake fluids I produced in 2008.

If you are building the finger brake option then the master cylinders are also Matco so they are compatible. So you can use MIL-H5606, Aviation hydraulic fluid and ATF compatible.

Hi,
If the Kit you have was supplied more than 3 years ago, you will have the correct master cylinder seals loose, with which to replace the original [ installed] seals with.[KART M/C]
This will let you use the red [ cherryade] aircraft brake fluid which the Matco calipers are set up to use.
If the Kit is a very recent one, God alone knows which replacement seals you will have, same as if you request new seals now.
You can use DOT 5 Silicone fluid with the master cylinders and Matco calipers as they are, but it is awful stuff to use and a disaster if it gets on any part of the structure.
Cheers,
Nev.
