One of my customers has had a persistent seep from the rivets on the left wing fuel drain. This year, I decided to open up the fuel tank, remove the nutplate, clean up everything, and reinstall the nutplate.
What I found was a surface that had been beat down (up?) pretty hard. The nutplate was deformed (you can't get another one for less than $180). The rivets had been beat in so hard they were flat on the inside. One of the countersunk rivet holes was so large, a #20 rivet fit just fine.
I sanded off all the paint around the drain hole. Pics show the depression in the fuel tank.
The basic installation of the fuel drain is so simple that beating into submission just doesn't seem fair.
I reinstalled with Cherry-Max rivets.  One #30, one #20. I'll build up the surface around the drain until it's flat.
I'll send pics later.
