Wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom (or, even better, some photos etc) that would help me install a new trim cable. Mine snapped over the weekend and unspooled off both wheels. Not sure if the tail spool is still intact but the lack of tension leads me to think it is not. I saw some talk about replacing with electric servos but, I prefer to use the cable system.

Gil,

On my earlier CJ my mechanic at the time replaced the trim wire using a fine, woven US wire after he twice tried using the Chinese wire. The woven wire was much easier to work with, and he was able to purchase a much longer length of the US wire making it much simpler to lead through and install on the trim wheels.

I have electric three-axis trim tabs on my current CJ. If I was doing it over I would keep the manual tim for the elevator and use electric for aileron and rudder.

Hal

I know Hal recently did this on Ernie's (later James's) plane. He might be able to offer some advice.

I have Hal’s “earlier CJ” with the trim wire in question. It still looks and works just fine. When I purchased the airplane though, the elevator trim neutral light did not work. I tried replacing the bulb. No luck. Then while troubleshooting the system, we noticed there was no slug /nub on the wire to activate the trip switch for the light. I installed a replacement slug and everything works fine now.
