Hello fellow 'Kolbers',



I am new to the list (first time posting...).  I recently purchased a Kolb Mark III Classic (M3C) that I will have to transport  in an enclosed 24' car hauler/trailer to its new home in Key West, FL.  The wings have been removed from the plane and I would like to pre-build a wing dolly/cradle to safely hold the wings for the long ride.



Does anyone have drawings or instructions I could build a wing dolly or cradle from?

I can come up with some dimensions for you.



  BTW, it makes  rolling your plane around on your shop floor mighty easy, es[ecially whe you add my handy-dandy

front wheel dollys, too.

Hi Mike,



Thanks for the pics and reply.  That is a cradle I can definitely use once I get the wings hung again and start transporting the plane to/from the field.



For this first transport, I am looking to build a plywood cradle for the two wings so I can strap them against the wall of the car hauler.  I just need the dimensions of the wings so I can make my cut-outs in the plywood and lay down some old carpet or foam for padding against the surfaces.  Something cheap, easy to build but sturdy enoughto handle the long ride.

When I transport my Kolb long distances, I use broad nylon straps to suspend them from the ceiling of the enclosed trailer I have, and then padded the wings on both sides with moving blankets (and padded the straps from the wing LE with foam rubber).  They made the trip from California to Texas without a problem, and saved me the trouble of constructing cradles.

Hi Russ,



Ride is approx. 1900 miles (30 HRS) EACH WAY!  Key West, FL to Iron Mountain, MI.  Once off the Keys Overseas Hwy (US1), it's I-75 north to MI and back...  



Will be stopping in ATL on the way up to drop off a set of floats and picking up another set of floats in lower MI on the return South with a quick stop in London, KY to visit the good folks at the Kolb Factory (if they're back from SNF 2012 in Lakeland).

Sorry to say this but your "Google Translate" Spanish is incorrect. Hueso is Spanish for the English word Bone. West in Spanish is Oeste.

A note on the word "Key" used to identify an island. Its origin is not well established except by usage. Most believe that it began by the Spanish adapting the word "cayo' from the Taino Indians of Hispanola and Cuba referring to small islands. The Spanish normally used "isla" for island and "islet" for small island. At least in the New World, they appear to use "cayo" and "cayuelo" for a very small island. The English used "Cay" or "Kay" such as Cay Sal Banks. Cay is pronounced by Americans as the letter "K," but by Englishmen as the word 'Key.' I am not certain if the written and the pronounced versions made any difference. Anyway, English maps of the Keys made just prior to the Revolutionary War of 1776 used the word "Key." A Colonial American court record of the "Libel of Dennis and Allen vs the snow St. Fermin alias Britanis" in 1744 used the word "Keys" referring to the Florida Keys. This is one case where an American court reporter might write ''Key' when an Englishmen

  prounced 'Cay.' See the Admiralty Papers, Vol. 2, 1743 -1744.

Sorry to say but the key was named for the large amounts of bones there. It's Cayo Hueso, nothing to do with west -- except in English.

I don't need Google to translate for me.
