One of the rectangluar LED's on my MAC pitch trim indicator seems to be
burnt out. Am I the first to have this happen? Guess the only fix is to
replace the whole thing? ($86!)

Hi Larry,
You might want to check on the GRT yahoo group to see if anyone
wants to sell theirs - most of the GRT EFIS systems show the
trim on the EFIS.
Just as an aside, do you actually use the trim indicators very
much while flying, or is it just to set the trim at takeoff?

I had this happen to me too. I sent an e-mail to RayAllenCo and they took care of it!
YMMV - but they were good to me!

Larry you are right about that. I recently replaced mine after losing
several leds over a span of about 1 year. Call Ray Allen. He may cut you a
little slack on the replacement.

Thanks for all the input. I'll give Ray a call and if that doesn't pan
out I'll get the parts book and soldering iron or check for someone
selling one.
Mickey - I reference it almost anytime I'm adjusting it. I know what the
normal positions are for my plane during different phases of flight, so I
can confirm everything is normal in regards to trim.

I lost a couple of elements in several of mine after my voltage regulator failed and they saw high voltage. Just something you might want to check.

That's a great idea Mickey. With everyone updating to the glass there should be a stack of used indicators out there. I really don't know and want to clarify, are these LED indicators very accurate?

I lost the indicator bars in mine as well. I had it wired so it came on with
the master and when starting, I suspect that the voltage surges zapped it.
Rewired it to run off an avionics master and no more problems.

I'm thinking about leaving the LED out all together. There should be a way to install just a light for a generic takeoff position, maybe with some sort of rheostat or potentiometer setup? Any ideas?

Add me to the list! I had 26 hours on my 6-A when parts of my trim indicator
wouldn't light. Called Ray
Allen and they said to send it in for a look see but that will have to wait
for the annual in October as I am having to much fun right now.

Mickey, I've ordered the GRT EFIS and have been reading the manuals but see
no reference to trim inputs. Where are they mentioned? BTW I'm not using
the EIS if that is where it goes.

Greg

The GRT guys seem to be a bit behind on their website updates,
and documentation updates. I learned about this on the
GRT_EFIS yahoo group. Here's a picture of the trim indicators
on the screen from Mike Schipper's website:
http://www.my9a.com/finish15.asp (it's about two screens down)
Mike drew a nice wiring diagram, but I couldn't find it
on his site. I uploaded it here:
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/9839/grtefistrimwiring1zj.jpg
The Yahoo group is good - check it out!
