I stopped in at a local boat launch, just to kill some time on a nice day. The launch area was pretty busy, but in the course of about an hour I saw at least three boats and personal watercraft with engine trouble. I commented about it to the DEP officer stationed there, and asked if it could be the result of leaving fuel in them over the winter. He said it was ethanol in the fuel giving all the problems. He has a private pilot ticket, and was aware of the controversy with ethanol. There were only about 8 boats there, while 3 of them either wouldn't start, ran poorly, or quit after a short distance.  Another argument for fresh fuel, and cleaning the fuel systems frequently.
