They've been hanging there long enough... staring at me in all their ill-fitting glory. After many hours filing and sanding, my doors sort of fit. Anyone approaching this point should take a look at Deems website as it's very helpful.
A couple of questions...
Gas Struts - I searched the archives and found a couple people mentioned getting upgraded struts. Cost? Sources? Really necessary? Are they drop in replacements? Sounds like the standard Vans-supplied part is about to join other dead parts in my orange Homer Bucket.
DISCOAT 4220 - Wish I'd have known about it before installing windows... Hadn't heard anyone mention this stuff. Found it until poking around on Deems website. Looks really useful!
Cheers,
Jay

I found a product on ACS called DISCOAT that looks interesting in protecting the windows during construction and paint. (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/discoat4220plexiglass.php)
Does anyone have any experience using the product? If so, how much did you need to cover all five windows.
thanks,
bob

The Vans' struts work okay if you don't add a lot of weight to the door. If you do add a lot of interior panels, etc., you may need a stronger strut.

My doors are stock with no interior panels. Van's std. struts worked OK for about a year, then started to lose lift, especially in cold weather. Switched to Van's heavy duty struts. They work fine, but are pricey at about $120 each. McMaster-Carr has similar for lower cost.
