Regarding your question about my prop failure; it was a 2 year old GSC 3 blade. All three blades departed the hub at the same time while cruising at about 2600 feet.

The NTSB studied the remains (all three blades were found within 30 feet of each other on the ground) and could find no apparent cause.

My Kitfox was heavily damaged in the off field landing, but there were no injuriies.

Hi Jim
Sorry to hear about your prop failure.
Curious, did your 912 overspeed and hurt itself?
If so what exactly got hurt?
Thx.

Jim:

There was a SB... Only because they do not write AD's for experimental's.  About blade separation at the hub. You may find this information on the manufacturer's web site or under the FAA's AD List (Manufactures).  The engine should also be treated as if it had a Prop-Strike.

There was a single hard shake/knock/bang and the engine stopped. We discovered that that it instantly shook both carbs off. We did not think that there was an overspeed, but the wreck, including the engine, was sold at auction, so I don't know for sure.

Two practicing A+E's, one of whom was in the airplane when it happened, felt that the engine probably did not sustain any damage, but the buyer got it cheap enough to afford a rebuild so hopefully he did it.

Barry:

I read the SB. The gap between the front and rear halves of the hub was within spec, but I was not the original owner, so according to the SB I should have sent it to GSC for inspection. I did not. That is the specific reason why I did not sue GSC.
