Welding aluminum will gerenerally take more heat than welding the same
dimension of steel. Why, aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat, so
it spreads out over the whole piece. Remember how you could melt one
end of a 12" long steel tube and hold the other end with your bare hand?
- DON'T try this with aluminum - you will be unhappy.
You can try to weld aluminum without flux or cleaning, but you will end
up with a glowing red/black blob of schmeg.
