Attached are a few photos of N33040 (was N799AT before special FAA assignment of the Key West zip code) being fitted with 15’ Puddlejumper Floats. I am currently in the process of installing the nose wheel assembly not shown in these photos. Will upload more pics when the final assembly of the nose wheel, floats, controls and wings are re-fitted.
BTW… homemade A-Frame hoist in the photos is used to lift the M3C to install/remove the floats and re-install the factory main gear. Takes about ˝ hour…
Have a great weekend! It’s HOT and HUMID in the Florida Keys and the mosquitoes are HUNGRY this morning!

Jack,
Those floats and your plane really look nice. Do you have any idea of what the extra weight will be with the floats?

Rex,
Haven't done a new weight/balance but my guess is a NET GAIN of approx. 60
lbs per float and 15 lbs for the nose wheel, hardware and control cables
after removing (and accounting for...) the factory main gear. I purchased a
set of fiberglass wingtips from Travis/Brian at Kolb while I am making
needed repairs to the damaged right wing tip. Once I have the new wingtips
installed, and the cockpit and instrument panel re-arranged for my personal
preferences, I will do two, new W/B calculations, one with the floats and
one with the factory gear. Patrick and I sat down and ran thru a few sample
weight/balance calculations for the float installation and I will be hard
pressed to get too forward or too aft of CG with max/min loading if our
guesstimates are correct. CG is one of the key reasons you have to mount
the main gear legs to the floats/spreader bar at the proper location on the
float(s). That is where Patrick came in VERY HANDY to have present during
the install.
Puddlejumper CUSTOM builds each set of floats they sell. The fact I
purchased a used set made for the T-Bird presented mounting challenges you
wouldn't have to deal with if you bought a new set from the factory (or
another Kolb owner).

Jack,
Thanks for the info. I've talked with Patrick several times over the past year and he does seem to know his business and seems easy to work with.
I want to get comfortable with the plane on the standard gear first but I'm living on a lake so the amphib. floats are very attractive.

Rex,
I am going to take Patrick's advice and fly the Mark III on factory gear
first to work out any 'bugs' that may exist. Then I will re-install the
floats and give it a go. That way I have a 'baseline' to work with.
Good luck on the lake. I can't wait to take-off/land on water.
