Hi Carlos,

I don't think it matters which end of the rivet contacts UHMW. However, that stuff is so soft you might need a metal washer between the rivet head and the plastic.

On my plane the only plastic used in structural places is nylon.

The head should be against the softer material.

UHMW is also a structural material it can withstand impact and can be used as a bearing material.
It also has been proven to be a good wearing surface against abrasion.

Proof of that can be seen in snow plow were the UHMW make the surface against which the snow roll out of the way above the road scraping blade
Also hockey rink sides, liner in quarry hoppers and silos as well as sliding and rotary bearing surfaces.

I happen to design stuff with that type of materials and it is all in how you apply it to a particular situation.
Just my two cents... You mileage may vary
