folks,
I bought a couple of oil analysis kits at Sun-n-Fun. Here is the first report from Aviation Laboratories on my first oil sample analysis I sent them. Values in (parenthesis) below my results are average values from all their analysis data for the same type engine model. As you can see it's all (N/A). So it seems there's nothing to compare it with.

Question: Are the results typical? Has anyone gottten their oil analyzed? BTW, The engine has 150 hours.

Thanks
Bear

Bear,
I think I remember Linda having her's analyzed some time ago. She monitors this list so I'm sure she will comment.

No need to send another copy of your results, I didn't notice the attachment the first time I read you  email.

Just a comment on the high silicon reading in my analysis results.  My Lightning was factory built.  My normal fuel drainer wasn't long enough to drain the Gascolater on the lightning so I made one with a longer rod and used a plastic freezer bag to catch the fuel.  When I held the bag up to the sun it "glittered" with small bits (microscopic) of what I suspected to be fiber glass.  Shortly before the last oil change I removed the factory installed fuel filters from each tank and installed new FRAM G-1 filters (These have paper filter elements). I cut the Factory units (white plastic tubular filters) open and found they are not truly filters as they have a fine screen element which can pass the very small fiberglass particles.  I beleive that was what I was finding in the Gascolater.  The particles are apparently small enough to get through the carb. jets but they are showing up as Silicon in the oil analysis.  We will see what the silicon readings are after the next oil change.  Gary N335AL

Hi Bear,

I had the oil analyzed about 18 mos ago but can't find my results; as I recall, there was nothing unusual. Are you going to Oshkosh? I will be there most of the week.

Linda,

I hope to see you there. Donna and I will be getting there either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning depending on weather. We will be there all week. One or both of us will likely be at the SAFE tent (on the flight line side of the FAA building) sometime during the day. I know I will be stopping by the Arion display from time to time.

Have a wonderful day,

Dennis

Hi Linda,
Good to hear from you. I hope all is well. No problem on the analysis. I've got a couple to compare against.

IRT AV: No I'll be hanging here in FL this year. Although I wish I could. Just too much to do right now and I'm recovering from surgery too. We've had alot of rain here and hot and humid days so it's either early morning or just around sun set to get any flying in.

Will you be taking the Lightning out there?
Have a safe trip either way....and keep in touch!

Bear

Bear,

Everything is OK except for no rain and lots of very HOT weather! I will be driving to Oshkosh as I am taking lots of stuff to put in the fly market.
