Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what type of rubber to use to connect the tank to the aluminium elbow of the fuel filler pipe? Also, what are it's dimensions (inner-outer diameter and appr. length), and where can I best buy this?

Also, I could do with a little advise on the clips to use. I read somewhere on the forum to disregard jubilee-clips, and instead use 'round-automotive' ones. I don't remember who wrote that, and if that statement still holds. If someone could please advise on brand/partnumbers for these clips, that would be awesome.

A speedy response and advise would be very welcome, since I need to replace it before next flight which is planned early next week...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Marcel

The spring type clips tend to come in smaller sizes to the size you need,
I cut down my existing rubber pipe and used two small pieces  to connect to the Cobra and tank using jubilee clips, I haven’t had any problems in five years,
Best wishes
Ivor

Thank you Ivor for sharing your experience with the clips you use.

Since I do not have the original rubber hose and I have not yet taken off the existing rubber hose, I am hoping that someone on the forum can provide me with inner-outer diameter and type of hose to use, so that I can get some before starting the replacement process...

Hi Marcel,

I seem to remember that the hose has a 50mm or 2" (50,8mm) ID. Check out the motorsport suppliers like "Demon Tweeks" who may have them in Silicone hose.

Thanks Barry, I will have a look at those silicone hoses.

Today I did a more in-depth examination, and it turned out that (instead of the rubber joining the tank and aluminium elbow of the filler) the rubber joint between fuel-return line/tank breather and the tank was the one leaking.

After taking that rubber off, I noticed that a substantial piece of the inner-lining was showing severe cracks (see attached image). No wonder the smell of fuel had increased lately, and it started to leak...

Hopefully the smell fuel will be gone (or substantially decreased) now I have a new rubber joint in place...

A valuable lesson learnt: make sure rubber hoses are in tip-top shape, if in doubt, replace them! I will still have to replace the rubber joint between tank and aluminium elbow of the filler, if only because I am not 100% sure of the condition of it's inner lining and I don't have records of when this was replaced last...
