Hi Damien
"I have been told that this crankcase fretting sometimes happens in the early model engines, such as mine."
I can understand that fretting on the crankcase can cause oil leaking, but in your case did it cause you to not be able to turn your prop?
Thx.

Ron,
I believe after reaching into the fog of my mind that the engine does not have bearings as such. The crank shaft rides in the case and if the two pieces "rub" together eventually the crankshaft will not be able to turn as the"bearing holes" for the crankshaft get smaller thus squeezing the crankshaft .
Don't quote me now, but I believe that is the reason

Dick,
The camshaft turns in a bore in the crankcase halves without bearings, but not so the crankshaft, which does have bearings, much like many automotive engines.
