Evidently they are, but as I reported not too long ago, one of mine
unscrewed itself even though it was the first-time use.
A drop of LockTite threadlocker will not harm .............

For this particular application, I can't help but wonder why castle nuts w/ cotter pins are not called for...

Good question. That is normal accepted procedure in the aviation community. Don't know why it's not done here. Lack of suitable hardware?
