I sort of recall finding a document that listed the wt of various
models of 540 engines. I know the Lycoming owners manual has something
like that, but I recall there was some independent source. Anyone have
a link to something? like someone would use when deciding between
Continental and Lycoming options that might fit other homebuilts?

Kelley,
Type Certificate Data Sheets show the weights of the various models. I think most of the 540s are all on the same one. Here's the link I use. Search for IO-540 from here:

Thanks Dave, that got me what I wanted.
D4A5 is shown as 379. C4B5 at 375.
