I've been trying to get this message to post all day.
It had an embedded .jpg capture from Photoshop in
it which may be sticking in the craw of Matt's spam
filters. In any case, here 'tis again but with the
data plot posted to the website.
I picked up a new Schumacher 1562 at the Pratt Walmart
on my way back to M.L. Monday. I connected it to the same
SVLA battery we used to explore Battery Tender performance
a few days ago. Here's the recharge profile
http://tinyurl.com/d8yc8rw
It's interesting to note that the charger spent nearly as
much time in the top-off as bulk-charge mode.
It will be interesting see what the next few cycles look
like. I just put the battery on 1.2A discharge to measure
it's energy content. Watch this space . . .

Bob,
The "Schumacher 1562 redux" thread got my attention (your charge profile plot) because recently, I accidentally (Pitot Heat) discharged my Odyssey PC 680 to 7.5 volts. I used my Schumacher XC-10 to revive it, but I noticed that the charge voltage was 15.7v.
Odyssey says should be < 15 v to avoid boiling the batt and causing vents to open. The batt got warm under charge, but never hot.
Just wondering if the 15.7v fried something that I should be aware of and How I might go about modifying the charger in some way to prevent the over-voltage if it's an issue.
Worry warting prior to first flight,
John

All I know about the XC-10 doesn't give me a clue
as to why you saw that kind of voltage on the battery.
It's a Schumacher product with a list of software
controlled features. Have you dump and cap-checked
the battery since the questionable run-in with
the charger?

I have not cap checked the battery (no time recently), but it seems to be performing fine. Need to construct "poor man's cap checker".
Topping off the battery recently, I monitored the voltage rise and sure enough, the XC-10 crept up to over 15 v again and I shut it down.

Hi jonlaury
"monitored the voltage rise and sure enough, the XC-10 crept up to over 15 v again and I shut it down."
Curious, did you ever check to make sure your volt meter is telling the truth?

Good question!
Jon, if you find that this charger is indeed
'topping off' at over 15 volts, I'd like to
put my hands on it. I'd pay postage both ways
to run some tests on it here.
In the mean time, don't charge off and build the
'po boy's cap checker yet. I've got a new cap
checker module in development. I'm taking the
software requirements and development tools
to my byte thrashing guru in the morning.
In the mean time, let's see if we can figure
out what's up with the charger you have.
BTW . . . I pitched a Schumacher 2500 in the
trash yesterday. I've had it for 6-7 years.
I think it was working okay the last time I
had occasion to use it in Wichita . . . perhaps
4 years ago. Didn't work yesterday. Fooey . . .

Happy to oblige. Do you think that you can tweak it so that it's useable again? Got it from Walmart about 6 mos ago for $40. Don't know what Schumacher's warranty is but my receipt has long since vanished and I doubt that Walmart will take my word for it.

Let's see if it has forgotten how to sing and dance.
Walmart might surprise you . . . especially if you
want to exchange it.

The Schumacher website cites a 5 yr warranty.
