I have the “roto-molded” header tank supplied by Skystar in 1994. It is some kind of plastic-polyethylene?, milky color. Question: is this material attacked by alcohol? Should it be treated with Kreem? The wing tanks have been Kreemed at Skystar. I recoated them, but not sure the header needs it. Who knows the answer?

I will have my Speedster flying next year with a Viking engine and Skyview efis. Does anyone know of a Grove gear for sale? Can a one piece gear be made of laid up fiberglass?

Ed,
The header tank will not be affected by the ethanol in fuel. The issue usually mentioned about the tanks is getting the metal fittings to seal. I have a persistent leak in one just enough that it smells.

There have been attempts with laid up fiberglass gear legs. The issues that have cropped up is delamination when highly stressed.

Ed-
The way I understand it, the Kreem is used for sealing up the minute
pinholes in the fiberglas fuel tanks. Because the header tank is not
made of the same material as the fuel tanks are, the Kreem should
not be needed.
I re-Kreemed my fuel tanks in 2005 (1994 version), and they are still
going strong. My header tank is not Kreemed, and it's doing fine.

Ed,

I've used that particular tank successfully since 1994 with and without ethanol. . . . Dow 730 sealant is especially good for plastic and resin tanks where the fitting can't be tightened to the normal torque. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/dow730.php

Yes, I did and at half the price of a replacement aluminum tank it is a bit
hard to swallow. I think others in the past have recommended Rectorseal No.
7, and I ordered some of that this morning. We'll see. The Dow product is a
RTV product. Do you think it will harden in the tube like most RTVs do.

Guys, After trying to seal the fittings on my plastic tank multiple times unsuccessfully, I bit the bullet and paid the $100 (incl. shipping ) from ACS for a tube of the Dow 730. It sealed the fittings 1st time, hasn't leaked since. The stuff is superb for sealing fittings in plastic tanks. That was 2 1/2 years ago. I have kept it in the refridgerator for 2 1/2 years and it is still plyable. I even sold enough to seal a couple of fittings to someone on this list for $20 after I had it for a couple of months. Good deal for both of us. I recooped some of my expense and he spent 20% of the cost of a full tube.

I just did a quick search. Here is some on Ebay for half of ACS. Other searches might bring up better prices.
