With time to hit the hangar being at a premium these days, I was finally able to get back to N21YK and verify that the source of my air system leak does indeed appear to be the nose gear actuator. After a bit of wrestling it has been liberated from the airframe. I'm assuming the flat spots on the upper / lower collars are grip points to remove the end caps. But that's about as far as I got before I had to call it a night. If you have actuator disassembly / rebuild experience, please talk to me...what is the correct procedure for disassembly and is there anything else I should know about the process as a whole? I have a seal kit on order from Jill - and all shuttle valves have been rebuilt / reinstalled.

Thanks all!
Rico

Jill and others will know intimate details, and you should probably wait
until they give them! However, I had no one to ask when I did mine on
my YAK-50 and the one thing I missed was that those ends that you
mention with the flat spots on them *ALSO* have a *LOCK SCREW* that you
have to loosen before putting on the big wrenches to remove the end
pieces. Look carefully. If nothing else, Russian designs are
consistent ... so even though I have never seen or worked on a YAK-52
actuator, my guess is that they too will have lock screws.

No problem... you are exactly right, it is easy miss those suckers with all the paint. In my case, an A&P wanted to put a TORCH to mine to "loosen them up". Thank Heavens I found the set screw before that happened!
