We are planning on flying our RV-10 to New York City next week to visit relatives....

We are staying in Brooklyn Heights. Anyone have any suggestions on where to fly in to, how to get around, and issues we might have with the remnants of Hurricane Sandy?

And thoughts/guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You might look into KHPN (White Plains, NY). Panorama Aviation is good place to park. Give them a call and they can give you the details. The commuter train is not far from the airport and an easy (cheap) way to get into the city. There website is http://www.flypfs.com/#

The other option is TEB, but will be more expensive.

Enjoy your trip!

I used Panorama at White Plains and recommend them.

The only problem was taxi for departure and ground told me to "follow the
Citation". As these are a dime a dozen at this place I had to ask "which
one?".

I too use Panorama at KHPN. High service level, everything as it should
be. I used to live in and around the city and generally settled on KHPN
for trips to Queens.

I don't know anything about the current post-Sandy conditions but I
usually rent a car when doing the boroughs. I would definitely rent now
to avoid mass transit outages.

We filmed a trip into KHPN via the Hudson River VFR corridor. Ended up
looking straight down at the 9/11 memorial. I was looking at it last
night and would love to post it but need to figure out how to edit it
down a bit. If and when I do, I'll post a link FWIW.

Mike you can try Republic Airport in Long Island. Not to far of a ride to Brooklyn. Car rental would be the way to go. You might have some trouble getting gas but Im sur by the tiime you get here that problem should be easied up. Good Luck and fly safe. If you decide to go to Republic try New York Jet FBO  631-588-4800. No landing fee.

We flew into KLDJ this past Spring. It's close, but the FBO is less than accommodating and seems they could care less about GA aircraft. Seems like mostly chopper traffic out of there. Landed with 11 gallons on board and figured I'd fuel up on departure. Got to the airport Saturday morning, had to hunt down and employee and they had only 14 gal. of 100LL on the field to sell me. Had to make another stop on my way back to WI. I will not go in there again.

Experiences like that is good written out as feedback on Airnav.com I wrote
one in particular and the FBO called me the next day to know what happened
in detail and said it wouldn't happen again. They also gave me a big
discount on 100LL the next time I stopped in. Positive feedback is a must
too. I wrote one two weeks ago about Signature in MSY and Bergstrom at PSC
and they both appreciated it.

I just posted a video of our flight over Manhatten and landing at KHPN
(Panorama). It's crude, no music, just engine noise and garbled
voices. But it was a beautiful day.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/60509998/Manhatten%20to%20KHPN%20wLorrie%20%28trimmed%29.wmv

Since then I've hooked up the sound for the GoPro to the intercom which
makes things a bit quieter and more interesting.

I'll leave it up for a few days for anyone that is interested.

Bill,
The link directs visitors to download the movie to their local computer. Unfortunately the file is almost 1 GB. Yikes. I suggest you consider uploading the video to YouTube and allow them to deliver your content streaming. From there you can turn on & off public access and forever have a place to watch your adventures w/o having to handle a large video file. YouTube also allows users to watch at lower resolution where bandwidth is a challenge.
Looking forward to reviewing the trip.

Yes, that's what I've done in the past.

You may find the link is working now but Dropbox may not be a good tool
for that.

Thank

Well, I hope someone had a chance to view it. Dropbox dropped me for 3
days for too much traffic - probably just file size.

Anyway, I need to learn to edit and produce files sized for YouTube (or
Dropbox).

Thanks for bearing with me here,
