Hallo group,
I am just about ready to mount my nose gear. Going to some web sites to =
see what others have done I noticed that Dean Seitz's nose gear was =
twisted about 2.9 deg to the left (in direction of the flight). I =
checked mine and it is 1.0 deg twisted to the left. I wonder if some =
twist to the left is intentional and if so , how much? If not, I wonder =
what other have done in order to correct it since this is set in place =
by Europa and bonded in with what looks like loctite and secured with an =
AN bolt across.
BTW. The steel shaft in the nose wheel fork is also bonded in and only =
secured by the roll pin. I do not believe the roll pin is supposed to =
carry any load. Bob, is there any chance that your nose wheel fork =
assembly got to hot for any reason (e.g. powder coating) and voided the =
bond?
Below are to links from Dean Seitz's web site showing 2 pictures with =
what I mean by the twisted nose gear assembly

Hi! Michael
I can't afford such luxuries as powder coating!
No such bonding on my nose wheel yoke just the Mickey Mouse Roll pin and
the shaft only uses about 1" of penetration when there's available metal
for about 2" PLUS. This alone would have supplied more rigidity.
What makes you think the shaft is bonded into place. Whatever even if it
were bonded there's not enough shear strength in a 1/4" roll pin against
a 1/2" fine threaded castellated nut being tightened. .......and I'm not
aware of any process that welds steel to aluminium !
IMHO don't mess with your life replace the roll pin with a high tensile
bolt before next flight. Then watch for a mod!
On the alignment since the nose wheel castors I can't imagine the
alignment is worth bothering with unless you are a fanatic and notice
every time you walk round the a/c!

Yes, mine was very much off. It was just went the old Europa was going out.
They were supposed to send me a new one. Never happened. Last year at Sun n
Fun, Andy remembered it and the New Europa 04 sent me a new one no charge.
Very nice of them to do it.
Yes it is held in with two bolts and locktight. It should be straight
vertical.

Thanks for your reply Dean
All,
additionally to the misaligned nose gear assembly I discovered an additional
misalignment due to the way the landing gear is mounted. I will get another
1/2 deg of a twist to the left bringing the total out of alignment to aprox.
1.5 deg. Now I wonder what others would do (or have done). After looking
into this a little further and thinking on how to correct this I came up
with 3 possible solutions.
1. Forget about it and life with the error thinking this would be within
tolerance. The plane should pull then always a little to the left.
2. Fix it by applying careful heat and separate the assembly. Clean the
adhesive off and rebond the nose gear leg back into place with everything
properly aligned. Then redrill at the rear bushing at 90 deg to the original
orientation. The front bushing could be drilled in a 45 deg orientation. The
question here would be if this would harm the integrity of the nose leg and
what adhesive to use.
3. Order a new nose gear assembly. (that would still leave the 1/2 deg off
due to the landing gear frame mounting)
I would appreciate the feedback and comments from others.

You don't have to heat it to get the leg out. Just remove the bolts and put
a pipe through the bushings for the wheel then just twist back and forth
wile pulling. It's just locktight not adheasive.
