Hi all,
after an engine change due to overboost I entered the test run phase with my new (used) engine.
Yesterday we executed a test run up to full throttle and all seemed fine and it ran smooth until I reduced to idle 1400rpm when the oil pressure dropped to 1,7 bar and the warning tone of the FyDat sounded (warn limit 2 bar, alarm limit 1 bar). I shut down the engine immediately in a reflex although increasing the rpm could maybe have solved the problem and the turbo highly appreciates a cooling run especially after full power. The oil was very thin at about 115 °C at this time.
Maybe all is normal since it’s kind of abnormal to push an engine to the limits on the ground and then idle back within a few seconds. I already sent a 914 to heaven, so I regard it as a good idea to seek for some advice.
I should maybe also mention that I discovered some “white sludge” during the (cold) oil check on the cap of the oil container. Maybe the oil accumulated some water during a previous run at low temperatures at only up to about 70°C. However the oil level always remains the same when cold.
What I also noticed is that the boost pressure only reached 1,2 bar despite we installed a new bowden cable which we carefully adjusted. It should reach 1,35 bar, right?
Any similar experiences from anyone who conducted a test run with a 914? Thanks for any feedback.
