Have a new RV-7 and upgraded to ANR headsets. (Running through a Garmin 240 and SL40 radio.) Trying to broadcast gets a side tone (which broadcasts) as soon as I hit the PTT. Hadn't noticed the problem until started taking passengers in the airplane.

At first, it only seemed to be on the pax side, but realized it was on the pilot side as well (which might show up depending if I have something plugged to the pax jacks). Happens with different brands of headsets. New Sennheiser gets the feedback when I turn on the ANR. Lightspeed G3 gets the feedback whether the ANR is on or not.

Regular headsets work fine for both the intercom and transmission.

would like to use the new ANR headsets; any ideas where to look for a problem?

Hi Marty, it seems some kind of resonance. Did you experience the same with open canopy ?

Try reducing the mic level. You can find how to here http://www.rv7-a.com/manuals/SL40Comm_InstallationManual.pdf . Take a look at page 13.

The problem occurs with engine off and canopy open. Haven't tried with engine running yet?

I have a Lightspeed Zulu and I’m quite happy with it. People that have Bose Noise cancelling headsets seem to be happy with them as well
So I think you can safely go with either.
