I am thinking to purchase a large cylinder (300) of compressed air to have on hand for the yak in the hangar.
I was asked what composition of air I wanted. This left me clueless. I know I dont want medical oxygen. But there are various types of air. Dried not dried etc. The scuba tank air has been dried but I dont know its consistancy
I need.some.help.what to order

Please don't use the word "Oxygen" in conjunction with "breathing air".
Someone will use "oxygen" when requesting a tank from a welding company
and bingo, we'll have another major accident. ie: Like - I'd like a size
300 tank of breathing OXYGEN.

As for dry, breathing air ONLY.

? Breathing air is correct, but it isn't compressed oxygen. Scuba shops or safety shops can supply. Yes you want dry air, which is what either will give you.

Hey Bob, I have a CJ up in Seattle, and have done lots of work with & on my pneumatic system. Initially I used regular compressed air, nothing special, via scuba bottle filled by a scuba-instructor friend, but nowadays I use nitrogen exclusively.  Its not intuitive to think a CJ6 would want to start with inert N2 charge, but I've don it many times without difficulty. N2 is just easier for me to stay supplied with via local weld shops. An option that woks for me at least.

If you're staying with compressed air, I'd say the drier the better. Some moisture should be filtered out by your air/water separator, but better to eliminate as much moisture as you can before you get started...

Do a Google search for Airgas or Airliquide in your area.

Dry air is more expensive than nitrogen. The fire department used to fill my air tanks. Never hurts to ask.
Then I bought a used pump with dryer that was used by a dive shop. Filled my own.

I use a scuba compressor to fill scuba tanks.

I use an industrial bottle (Air Liquide). Costs a bit more, but it's dry, for sure.
For emergency, I have a scuba bottle, refilled by the firefighters in my town (as metioned on the list, if you ask gently, they might help you).

Re: Compressed ... AIR !
(Yakovlevs Display Team Aero India 2015 / VE Day)

Dennis has a very good point :
Quote:
Please don't use the word "Oxygen" in conjunction with "breathing air".
Someone will use "oxygen" when requesting a tank from
a welding company and bingo, we'll have another
major accident. i.e. : Like - I'd like a size 300 tank of breathing OXYGEN.
Ask for dry, breathing air ONLY.

It has been mentioned on this forum before but it is worth repeating :
DO NOT put oxygen in the air system !
Unless you want to be blown up - in a literal sense !! - when you start your Yak (CJ).

Use compressed air only.

NO OXYGEN (O2) in the AIR TANKS ! YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT !

It has been done Exclamation Exclamation
The pilot and persons around this Yak were very VERY lucky !
You can kill people with this ! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
Have a look at the pics below :
