Changing a Yak-55 to 55M?
Can an early Yak-55 long wing be safely changed to a
short wing 55M? What should one look for to see if the
change has been done properly?
Paul

You might check with Nik Timofeev in Ocala, Florida, niktim(at)earthlink.net. He is a Russian engineer with a US A&P, Unlimited pilot and instructor and knows the Sukhoi/Yaks well - he does Annual Conditional inspections on them.
I heard Smash was looking at a beast like this in TX - is this the one? I have my doubts you can properly bolt the short wing on a longwing fuselage - but Nik would be able to better answer this. I guess the better question would be...Why would ya? I flew Unlimited with Smashes Longwing...
Respectfully, rick b

Paul, the long wing a/c is better for many reasons.
It has only one down side and that is roll not as fast. Neither a/c as
standard are suitable for UNL now unless....you put in 400, 430 or even the
450 HP engines, now you have a cheap UNL a/c. With the 430 HP you will have
better power than weight ratio.
With a SU at over 200,000 USD and a 55 at around 70,000 put on a 430 with MT
prop your at least 100,000 USD better of !! .
Cheers, mj
