Hi All,
I am thinking about having a flange welded on to the exhaust
silencer HEATSHIELD to accept a cabin heat assy. with hose out let
to the stb. & port foot wells,
has anyone tried this and if so is there enough " draft " from the
silencer / heat shield gap to provide enough heat ?
Steve.

Hi Steve,
We have a classic Europa with pre XS engine installation and have for many
years used air heated by only a small section of the exhaust surface area.
The air flows into the cabin via 2" diameter scat hose and a butterfly valve
(old Land Rover Carburettor throttle valve). The flow is quite small, in
fact very small but the cabin is so well sealed that we happily maintain
20 c when the OAT is minus 5.

Thanks Pete,
There's another builder that has fitted a heater so it has been done OK,
I can now go ahead with more confidence,
Regards,
Steve, Europa XS No. 630

Hello Stephen,
Did you install your heater based on the muffler? Any specific recommendations to take into account? Do you have some pictures to share?
Thanks, Jacques

Hello Steve,
I'm planning for a cabin heater installation based on a heat extraction from behind the oil cooler (http://www.customflightcreations.com/id18.html). I always considered this as the most obvious, simple and safe (no carbon monoxide) solution.
Have you also checked this option and if so, I'm interested in the reasons why you decided against it.
Thanks,
Roland
