I put the tail wheel of our KITFOX IV, Rotax 912 80hp into a socket on a
small flatbed trailer ($160 Harbor Freight Tools) and tow it between home
and airport.

It takes me 10 minutes to lift the tail, fold the wings, tow one mile to
house, pull it into its enclosed "car" trailer. That's right 10 minutes,
period.

I also trailer it in the enclosed "car" trailer all over the US behind a
Roadtrek 190 conversion van. Flying in spectacular locations and doing the
See the USA from Your Chevrolet by road. Doing it over ten years,
covering over 75,000 ,miles with Kitfox IV in trailer over the road. All
very easy and quick if set up properly.

My 25th plane, smallest and by far the most enjoyable experience in 40
years of flying.

Thought about a Kolb, with Rotax 912, and flew one but the Kitfox won.

HAVE FUN!

Hello.

I'm a former Glider/G.A./Gyro pilot looking to get a taildragger. I'm
considering both a Kolb MK III Extra AND a Kitfox IV. I just can't find
anywhere where someone has compared the two.

Any advice?

I'm specifically looking at the KF, Kolb or Avid because when I owned a
Gyroplane, I trailered it to/from my local airport 3 miles away. I kept
it in my barn and avoided hanger fees etc.

Any thoughts folks?

Thanks.

Doug

Yes. The best plane is the one you're flying. Buy either one, they're both great. Then fly the crap out of it. Then sell it. Then buy the other one. Fly the crap out of that. Then tell us which one you liked. Wink

Obviously, this being a Kitfox site we'll pitch the Kitfox. However there is one thing the Kitfox has that the Kolb might not, in spite of whatever flying qualities it has, and that's a great community. The Kitfox guys are a wonderful bunch to hang with and they get together regularly locally, regionally, and nationally. When they get together there's a lot of tall tales and a lot of flying. (With inevitably more tall tales as a result.) The flying's always fun, not just burger runs, usually involving terrorizing the surrounding community with low level daring-do, water skiing (in the aircraft,) and impromptu follow-the-leader.

That's my take.

Now a glider pilot, too.

PS. Make sure you ask this over on Team Kitfox. You might get a more "heated" response.
