Not using a backup electric fuel pump for takeoff  when one is available...that is the decision of the PIC but also poor  judgement that may bite you one day. I don't consider my 701 to reliably gravity  feed even in level flight at cruise power due to the flow tests I've done. Much  less at takeoff power and climb attitude. But it will be more likely to gravity  feed than a low wing with a failed engine driven pump. No way I take off in mine  without the electric pump operating. What's the  upside?
