Ned,
What do you think of this?
The plane this wiring diagram is for has an IO390 with a G-25 Concorde battery in the back. On 2awg wire he has no problems. He figured he saved 35 lbs over the heavier wire and the G-35 battery.

Hi Gary,
I didn't get a wiring diagram but
Let's see:
the weight of the batteries is
RG-35A = 29.5-lbs
RG-25 = 22.75-lbs (ref. 1)

Difference = 6.75-lbs

The weight of the wire is:
M22759-2  2 AWG 0.275-lb/ft
M22759-1  1 AWG 0.348-lb/ft
Difference = 0.073-lb/ft

M22759-02  2/0 AWG 0.542-lb/ft (ref. 2)
Difference = 0.267-lb/ft

As I recall you need minimum 9-ft, call it 10-ft

So if using 2AWG instead of say double ought for 10-ft you save 2.67-lbs

Not counting anything else, say like a lighter battery holder, there is only 9.42-lbs difference in using 2 AWG versus going way overboard and using 2/0 AWG

So I figure his figures are way off....

Other than that, I'd be asking conditions. What compression ratio? Stock 8.7:1? Or 10:1 like your plane?  Does he have a high current draw starter? Does he have an electronic ignition system?Has he tried to start it this morning in the 30deg coldness of Auburn? Or last summer after refueling and hot starting in 112deg Lancaster afternoon?

Think I'd leave the battery up front and replace it with this one that is 17.75-lbs lighter.
One that weighs only 5-lbs like here

And use these ultra light weight battery cables:

Attach to the starter with this

What do you,think?
Regards,
Ned
