Been on 'layoff' from building due to job issues, marital issues...etc. Trying to get back going. I"m building from plans only. My aluminum sheets have been in storage for about 5 years. They have gotten moisture between them. They are discolored. It's not a powdery substance on them.
Just looks like discoloration. Are these sheets still good to use or will I need to buy more?

While I don't think that's an issue, I would ask ZAC.
I would also see if scrubbing with scotch-brite removes the discoloration.

Welcome back

this is most likely a thin film of aluminum oxide and a very mild acid (like vinegar and cream of tartar mixture NOT muriatic etc.) should help remove the stain. Polishing may be necessary afterwards. (I have a BS in chemistry)

ALCLAD plates have a thin coating of pure aluminum pressed into the surface and is a slight oxide is supposed to form to protect the alloy underneath but other alloys do not have this pure aluminum coating so the other metals in the alloy are exposed and can oxidize and cause staining.
