What started out as a little project has gathered mass as it's rolled
along. Go figure...
Has anyone come up with a tool to help with wire listing? Add this unit
and that unit and let you connect the pins and come up with a wire list?
I have seen one from Visual Engineer Inc but I kind of think it's aimed
at people that rewire 2 or 3 Gulfstream's a week. There must be a one
off home built version.
Any thoughts?

I simply put it all down on a spreadsheet. We use a program called EPLAN at
work for this but its very expensive. For the small size of our stuff a
spreadsheet works just fine, and you can tailor the list to suit your needs-
and sort it any way you want to.
It feels like a bit more work at first but it really pays back later when
you are trying to figure out what circuit wire !(at)#$%^&(at) belongs to!

There's just so much typing all those pin assignment names in. I usually
can cut and paste those but the Garmin manual pdf's I have are copy
protected.

Bill....
Do a screen print (the PRT SCR key) of the appropriate page in the pdf, then copy it into your favorite graphic editing program (Open the program, then CTRL-V...Irfanview for me) then copy and paste what you need from there.

Hi Bill,Â
What would this bit of software do? Â I'm not sure I understand the concept here. Â Are you able to write down a few sentences for what the requirement is? Â I ask as a software developer who's just finished a contract.Â
Cheers,Â
James

Well... If I were king, it would have a list of equipment (i.e. SL30, KX125, Aspen EDF1000,...) and I could pick the ones that wanted. The software would list all the pins and let me highlight (select) pins and click "Connect" and when I was all done, it would output a wire list. Of course it would be nice to be able to edit the list too. If it did checking like not letting me tie incompatible pins together and making sure there is at lease one source pin for whatever sinks there are. If it put out schematic (or single line) drawings that would be cool too.
That's all.

Can you show us what the spreadsheet looks like? An image would be worth a thousand words.
Thanks,

I have attached a short pdf shot of my spreadsheet; the left most column is
for the wire numbers; the next column is for any connector that I may have
(I use barrel connectors and a variety of DB connectors that I then give
codes numbers/ names to). The last column describes the circuit that the
wire may be found in. You could add a 'from' and 'to' column, but I think
that that is overkill- all you need is the circuit that the wire is
associated with and then it's easy to find on your diagram.
I always find that you allocate all the numbers in sequence and its all neat
and organised, and then the client, or you, remembers something that needs
power and your neat sequence is all messed up. And that makes finding the
wire numbers very difficult, hence this list.
