My Kitfox model 5 with Stratus EA-81 is almost ready for flight, but I have
a questions about temperatures. Is BLOCK TEMPERATURE intended to be a
substitute for water temperature? The installation diagram for the engine
instruments does not show a water temperature sensor or gauge. When I look
at the engine limitations in the manual, I see no reference to water
temperature. I have installed a water temp sensor but during my taxi tests
it rises rapidly to 200+ range in ten minutes or less. Without guidance on
water temperature range and max temp, I have been reluctant to let it keep
rising, so I shut down. The block temperature stays well within range.

Does anyone use an actual water temperature taken from a sensor on a water
hose? Or are you just using the sensor from the block as water temp?

I am running a Stratus EA-81 in my model 4. I have a temp sender mounted in
the radiator. The temps should read about 180 to 200 depending on where the
thermostat is set at. I am thinking you might have an issue with 1 of your
senders or gauges as I am not sure how the water temp (outside the engine)
could get higher then the head temp. you might also want to check to see if
your cap is keeping adequate pressure on the system.
