Hi
Have just received my certificate of proficiency in the English language level 6. !

Just a reminder to everyone in the UK who is currently converting their licence to the the new pan European licence. Our now expired proficiency in English was granted some years ago at the beginning of the new language assessment scheme as an automatic "gift" to all native Englishmen. Under the new euro rules we have to demonstrate our ability to speak English. Do not ignore this need. It an absolute requirement to have a valid certificate when applying for the new EASA licence. You can obtain a certificate following a successful Flight test (remember to ask) or RT test, or accredited Language school or CAA approved circumstance.

Will send off the paperwork tonight. All being well should then get a shiny new Euro licence. That ought to let me fly EASA and non - EASA annex ii aircraft like the Europa.

Of course we can fly the Europa on the new LAPL as well, but for the me the EASA has more privileges and costs much less. But the rate varies significantly dependant on each individual case. There are pro and cons to EASA and LAPL licence variants

Anyone else applied for the new licence yet? Any other known hassles?

Regards

Bob

Only in the EU could a proficiency certificate in the English language
expire! What do they think has happened - maybe you forgot how to talk
English.

What an absolute nonsense it all is.

I've emailed the CAA for a copy of my records as the last flight examiner couldn't tell me what he had provided to the CAA. My CAA licence just says English!

I'm still waiting for a response - two weeks so far.

That's right. I succeeded in reaching level 6 some years ago (as
examined by a Dutch examiner Wink ) and I never have to apply for it
again. This is only true for level 6.

AS far as I can gather Level 6 was only invented in 2008 so if you have an
English language qualification dated prior to this you will almost certainly
need to have your records updated.

Hi Alan

Sadly you cannot do that. The new LAPL licence is similar to the EASA licence in this respect

Unfortunately unless you qualified recently I.e. in the seven years you will only have basic English endorsed on your licence. So would still recommend that you have ask for the certificate the next time you have some form of check with an instructor or take advantage of one of the other routes I mentioned earlier

In respect of the of the NPPL. Though there is an extra years grace on the validation of the licence itself the CAA application form refers to both NPPL and EASA.

Have some sympathy for the CAA. We are now a multicultural society in the UK. Many natural born Englishmen do not necessarily have English as their first language.

So get the certificate level 6 ( Expert) and you need not be bothered about it again. Trust this helps

Regards

Bob

Hi
I am 66 and many years ago passed the RT license in English and have used it speaking on the RT for 25000 hours s, so now i need a piece of paper stating i can speak English. And you are saying i need this piece of paper to maintain my Nppl is this correct.
My lady friend is 63 , her name is not Smith its Windmill and ancestry goes way back in this country , yet we where called in for an interview before it was issued, the office was full of interpreters, thought i might need one,
My Old PPL was validated for life, so the goal posts are altered at will, its wrong and should be honored for life, .
My Flying Club at Lydd, say i don,t need it for a nppl which only allows me to fly in the UK., are they wrong ??
Does it cost any money, , What happens if you have an O or A level in English, are they exemptions, Grandfather's rights.
Alan,

Alan,

If you are staying with the UK issued CAA NPPL or even a PPL (which you are
perfectly entitled to do with the restrictions that entails) you can
continue without a Language Proficiency endorsement.
You only need the Language Proficiency endorsement if you plan on changing
to an EASA license, be it PPL or LAPL.

agree with that, bit like landing on an aircraft carrier though aproaching from the west.
No problem for a Europa monowheel but I'd think twice in my Long EZ! I'm not as sharp as I used to be.

Hi Jim.
Yes i have flown to the scillies in a C150, spent a week under my wing in a tent always woke up outside at the bottom of it, its a bit hilly there, think it was called St Mary,s.
Harold Wilson was sitting in his garden, You are right it is a loverly place to visit, but its 30 miles across the water, IOW about my mark, but maybe i will one day, Always better to fly as a pair over water, so if there another pilot wants to do it this summer let me know.
I have done all those things had my 9 life's and quit a few more, and i want to get as long a pension as possible out of the government .
