After checking my nose gear, I decided to cut the collar off and
machine a 4130 by 3/4 steel rod to fit the nose gear down leg at the
proper angle. Then machined the rod down to 5/8 to go through the
yoke and threaded the end past the yoke, then welded the rod in place.
I am hoping this will work well. Without the collar the entire pin
and weld is visible. I also found that the cast aluminum yoke had
stretched and was developing excessive play. Fortunately I have a
spare aluminum yoke.
Dennis.

Dennis, we found that the 4130 had a hardness of 90ksi while the bolt used in the original was rated at 130ksi. Keep a lose eye on it and please keep us informed of how things are going.

In my previous note I used the wrong steel specification, I meant to
type 4340 steel. This is what I used for my nose pin.
